Out today in hardcover: The Druid of Death – A Sherlock Holmes Adventure

On the morning of the vernal equinox in 1899, Holmes is roused from his bed by Lestrade. The inspector has received a report of a girl brutally murdered at Stonehenge.

Upon arriving at the famed site, Holmes discovers the body of a young woman. On her forehead, painted in blood, is a druidic symbol. On her side, also in blood, is a message written in a strange language that neither Holmes nor Lestrade can decipher. The girl was also eviscerated and her organs placed around her body. As a final touch, branches from yew trees had been artistically arranged around the corpse.

Holmes senses a malevolent force at work, but without data, he is powerless. As the weeks pass, he slowly gathers information about the ancient druids and Celtic mythology and begins to assemble a small army of experts to assist him.

Expecting the killer to strike again on the summer solstice, Holmes and Watson travel to the Nine Ladies in Derbyshire, the site of another stone circle that harkens to druidic times. While they are holding their vigil, Lestrade and his men are off keeping watch over the stone circles at Avebury and several other locations.

The Great Detective’s worst fears are realized when on the morning of the summer solstice, he learns that the body of a young man has been discovered in the eye of the White Horse of Uffington. Like the first victim, he too has been marked with a druidic symbol and his body bears a message. Aside from the symbol and the message, the only other difference appears to be that his body and organs have been surrounded by willow branches.

Realizing full well that a maniac reminiscent of the Ripper is on the loose, Holmes and Watson find themselves in a race against time as they try to locate the cult, identify the killer and prevent another tragedy.

As usual, Ryan is spot-on with narrator Watson’s tone and perspective – the deliberate musings, arcane details and captivating storytelling of Holmes’ sidekick are classic Watson. You could be reading Sir Arthur Conan Doyle himself and have trouble distinguishing between the styles of each. And that, my dear Sherlockians, is the aura of authenticity that permeates Ryan’s imaginative series.” – Fran Wood, retired op-ed columnist and former books editor for The Star-Ledger, blogs at nj.com.

John Sutton not resting on his writing laurels with new book Upon A Nation’s Honour

John Sutton not resting on his writing laurels with new book Upon A Nation’s Honour – Article in The Gazette & Essex County Standard

EVEN from an early age writer John Sutton was dealing with local crime stories.

Back then it was as a clerk in his father’s solicitors but more recently he’s been dealing with crime of a very different sort, introducing the world’s most famous detective to our area.

And not content with penning just one book on Sherlock Holmes, John is bringing out two, within a matter of months of each other.

In his first book, In Unhallowed Rest, Watson meets a man in Waterloo station that leads himself, Holmes and Inspector Lestrade to the Essex/Suffolk borders where a series of murders point to a possible satanic cult of Vampirism.

Set in Dedham, that book came out in November, but hot on its heels is another Sutton Sherlock adventure entitled Upon A Nation’s Honour.

In that book, due out on February 15, Holmes is this time employed by the government of 1916 to find the agents of a foreign power who have stolen secret radio detection equipment from the newly built Dreadnaught battleship.

He says: “Rather than being a homage to Conan Doyle, I’ve tried to just write a story that happens to have Sherlock Holmes as a character in it.

“I’m fascinated by the era the Holmes books are set in and I’ve been pretty meticulous in my research on that period in history. That’s one of the best bits about writing these fictional stories is finding out the factual bits they’re based on.”

Out on 31st October – The MX Book of New Sherlock Holmes Stories – Part VII and VIII – Eliminate The Impossible

The MX Book of New Sherlock Holmes Stories – Part VII and VIII – Eliminate The Impossible

Volumes VII and VIII bringing forty-eight more stories to the world’s largest collection of new Sherlock Holmes Stories – specially written for Halloween.

In 2015, The MX Book of New Sherlock Holmes Stories burst upon the scene, featuring adventures set within the correct time period, and written by many of today’s leading Sherlockian authors from around the world. Those first three volumes were overwhelmingly received, and there were soon calls for additional collections. Since then, their popularity has only continued to grow, with six volumes already released, and now two more, Eliminate the Impossible, featuring tales of Holmes’s encounters with seemingly impossible events – ghosts and hauntings, curses and mythical beasts, and more.

In each of the stories presented in this massive two-volume collection, Holmes approaches the varied problems with one of his favorite maxims firmly in place: “… . when you have eliminated the impossible whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth … .” But what, exactly, is the truth?

The forty-eight stories in these two companion volumes represent some of the finest new Holmesian storytelling to be found, and honor the man described by Watson as “the best and wisest … whom I have ever known.”

All royalties from this collection are being donated by the writers for the benefit of the preservation of Undershaw, one of the former homes of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle.

The MX Book of New Sherlock Holmes Stories – Eliminate The Impossible is available from all good bookstores including   Amazon USA, Barnes and Noble USA, Amazon UK, and for free shipping worldwide Book Depository.

Out today – The Adventure of the Dancing Men–The Return of Sherlock Holmes Re-Imagined

SHERLOCK HOLMES RE-IMAGINED: In this book series, the original stories penned by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle featuring Sherlock Holmes and his devoted friend and biographer Dr John H. Watson have been amusingly illustrated using only LEGO® brand minifigures and bricks. The illustrations recreate, through custom designed LEGO models, the composition of the black and white drawings by Sidney Paget that accompanied the original publication of these adventures appearing in The Strand Magazine. Paget’s iconic illustrations are largely responsible for the popular image of Sherlock Holmes, including his deerstalker cap and Inverness cape, details never mentioned in the writings of Conan Doyle.

This uniquely illustrated collection, which to date includes this volume and the twelve short stories comprising The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes, is sure to delight LEGO enthusiasts, as well as fans of the Great Detective, children and adults alike.

THE ADVENTURE OF THE DANCING MEN: Mr. Hilton Cubitt of Norfolk seeks the help of Sherlock Holmes in deciphering strange coded messages, consisting of little dancing figures, which have unsettled his peaceful marriage.A short time later, Cubitt is found dead and his wife Elsie suffering a grave bullet wound to the head. Inspector Martin thinks it is a case of murder and attempted suicide, but using information garnered from the coded messages, Holmes sets a trap for the true culprit.

LEGO® is a trademark of the LEGO Group of Companies. The LEGO Group has not been involved in nor has it in any other way licensed or authorized the publication of this book.

Following in the footsteps of Sherlock Holmes, can you decode the encrypted text on the front and back covers of this book using the cipher from the story?

Out Today -Sherlock Holmes and Hitler’s Messenger of Death

Spring 1937. While German Chancellor Adolf Hitler ceaselessly talks of peace, his actions seem deliberately calculated to make the Western allies lose patience. The schizophrenic geopolitical atmosphere even can be felt as far away as Fulworth, England, the home of the retired Sherlock Holmes, where the Steiners, a German migrant couple, have recently found a refuge and have assumed care of the detective’s household after the passing of Mrs Hudson. Spying and detective work are far from the thoughts of beekeeping enthusiast Holmes, but the suicide of his protégé – a local youth whose natural talent the detective developed and encouraged for ten years – is a heavy blow. The death without apparent motive has now pulled Holmes back into the world, which has changed dramatically. Steam power has given way to electricity, carriages have been replaced by automobiles, and the skies are dotted with giant airships. The only thing that has remained constant is evil, in the shape of an enemy with whom Holmes first tangled more than forty years ago…

Sherlock Holmes and Hitler’s Messenger of Death is available from all good bookstores including  The Strand Magazine, Amazon USA, Amazon UK, Waterstones UK and for free shipping worldwide Book Depository.
