“This is a truly great Holmes story! Kudos are given for the remarkable final reveal. I found the book to be fast paced but the characters very well developed. Action adventure, mystery and a hint of a ghost story combine to create a tale well worth the reading!
In 1936, an elderly Doctor Watson sits at his desk with a dictation machine and, over a two week period, recounts the significant moments in his life. The expected publication of his autobiography never materialized. But in 2017 the wax cylinders containing Watson’s words appeared and have at last been made available to the general public. This, then is the life of Doctor John H Watson.
“Let us suppose that Holmes was not the consulting detective of the canon and bitter enemy to Professor Moriarty. Picture him instead as a “consulting criminal,” head of a vast criminal empire spreading its wings over London, Britain, and creeping into the rest of the world. Moriarty is a rival, trying to push Holmes out as “the Napoleon of Crime.”
That is the premise of this book. Nunn has taken the entire canon, including the cases mentioned in passing by Watson, but unrecorded. He even brings in one of the stories from Doyle’s Tales of Mystery and Horror, The Lost Special!” Each adventure is woven into the story from the viewpoint that Holmes masterminded them with Watson as a Lieutenant in Holmes’ operation…
It really is a well thought out plot and the inclusion of some many cases doesn’t stop the flow of the story at all! Nunn has been extremely successful in his makeover of the Holmes canon.”
THE VATICAN CAMEOS was selected as a Pitch Perfect Pick and voted for the Reader’s Choice award. It is “A Sherlock Holmes adventure that finds the great detective trying to solve a mystery created by Michelangelo, 400 years earlier.” Author Richard T. Ryan is a graduate of medieval studies and a Sherlock Holmes aficionado; the perfect man to resurrect one of literature’s favorite sleuths.
“This novel is a retelling of “The Problem of Thor Bridge.” The tale is expanded and has a slightly different slant than the original. J. Neil Gibson, The Gold King is accompanied to 221B by Samuel Clemens, AKA “Mark Twain.” In fact, Twain has recommended Holmes to his friend, and when the man bolts from Baker Street it is Clemens that brings him back…
This makes for a really strong story! That the ending changes don’t affect Holmes’ triumph at all and makes perfect sense with the evidence given! I doubt that even a Holmes purist could find much fault with the story. I am not saying that because Mark Twain is my favorite author—he is, by the way—but because this is truly an amazing story!

“This is volume two in this series paring Holmes with various American authors… The character of the twisted blackmailer, already known to be dark and pitiless, is shown to be even more of a devil than any reader already knows! The book is packed with action and drama! The characters are well developed and the pacing is superb!… I give the book five stars!”
It’s 1906. Far from England, the Ottoman Empire ruled by the despotic Sultan Abd-ul-Hamid 11 is on the verge of imploding. Rival Great Powers, especially Kaiser Wilhelm’s Germany, sit watching like crows on a fence, ready to rush in to carve up the vast territories, menacing England’s vital overland routes to her Indian possessions. At his medical practice in London’s Marylebone, Watson receives a mystifying telegram. It’s from Holmes. “Dear Watson, if you can throw physic to the dogs for an hour or two I would appreciate meeting at the stone cross at Charing Cross railway station tomorrow noon. I have an assignation with a birdlover at the Stork & Ostrich House in the Regents Park which has excited my curiosity. Yrs. S.H.”
Watson finds the invitation puzzling. Why should such a mundane meeting at a Bird House excite the curiosity of Europe’s most famous investigating detective or anyone else? For old times’ sake, Watson joins his old comrade-in-arms. Within days, Holmes and Watson find themselves aboard HMS Dreadnought en route to Stamboul, a city of fabled opulence, high espionage, and low intrigue. Their mission: at all costs, stop a plot which could bring about the immediate collapse of the Ottoman Empire.
Impareggiabile Holmes. Dove tutto pareva finito e invece, forse, era appena cominciato.
The Sherlock Holmes Alphabet brings iconic scenes from the Sherlock Holmes canon to life using Lego figures in high resolution images.
Five years ago, James Macaluso began building scenes from Sherlock Holmes stories in LEGO® figures. This became a series of books covering twelve of the adventures of Sherlock Holmes titled “The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes Re-Imagined”. Each book featured many high resolution features as well as Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s original text for the stories.
They went down a storm with both fans and critics.
James was asked to create more Sherlock Holmes scenes in LEGO® and the idea for the Sherlock Holmes Alphabet was born.
“A is for Agra, the immense treasure found. B is for Baskerville, accursed by the hound.”
Thus begins A SHERLOCK HOLMES ALPHABET, in which selected characters and objects featuring in the Sherlock Holmes stories written by Arthur Conan Doyle are presented in rhyming verse, from A to Z, and accompanied by amusing photographic illustrations of custom designed LEGO® models and mini-figures.
This uniquely illustrated edition is sure to delight LEGO® enthusiasts, as well as fans of the Great Detective, children and adults alike.
